"Audience Friendly, Singer Friendly"

Volunteer Job Opportunities

We are a friendly environment of talented arts professionals seeking equally talented, enthusiastic, and reliable administrative support for our dynamic group. The positions below are pro-bono/volunteer opportunities, with possible salary opportunities as organization and budget grow, as well as free admission to COPA events and performances, along with other perks. A great experience and a valuable asset on any resume, especially for emerging professionals.

General Manager
The Opportunity

The new General Manager of COPA will join a company with a proven record of artistic success and financial stability of almost two decades. He/she will have the opportunity to lead and represent COPA in the tri-state area where performing and visual arts have emerged as vibrant communities. Philadelphia alone, considered one of the top 10 cultural destinations of the United States by Travel Magazine, is home to well renown arts organizations that include orchestras, choral ensembles, opera companies, dance troupes, and theater groups, to name a few. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to lead a company with a distinctive vision, is committed to the continual growth of the company, working with limited resources, and in collegial relationships with an energized Board of volunteers. This is heretofore, an uncompensated position, however, it is an opportunity to create new revenue sources in order to ultimately support a paid staff.

The Company

ConcertOPERA, Philadelphia, known as COPA, was founded in 1996 with the mission of presenting standard operatic repertoire in concert format in intimate settings. This is a powerful experience for newcomers to the world of opera, and an exciting appreciation of artists and their emotional intensity to those who already love this art form. COPA’s performance approach provides a unique way of experiencing major opera works, that has solidified its reputation as “singer friendly, audience friendly.” COPA’s productions are also highly educational for both the singers and the audience. COPA offers a platform for professional artists, emerging or established, to essay roles of the standard and lesser known operatic repertoire. Needless to say, our alumni have amassed impressive performance credentials. Examples of repertoire performed to date include: Faust, Andrea Chénier, Un ballo in maschera, Carmen, Béatrice et Bénédict, Lakmé, Così fan tutte, Fra Diavolo, L’elisir d’amore and Die Fledermaus, among many others.

The Position

The General Manager is the chief executive officer of COPA, with oversight and ultimate responsibility to the Board of Directors for strategic vision. He/she oversees all aspects of operations including: artistic administration, budgeting and financial management, development, marketing and communications. He/she provides leadership and vision to ensure that COPA fulfills its mission and achieves its goals for organizational success. He/she is the face of COPA. In a culturally rich city, he/she may pursue partnerships and collaborations with arts, educational and cultural organizations in the area, while serving as spokesperson for the company. He/she will have the enthusiasm to be engaged in the fundraising efforts of COPA, by donating time and energy in the cultivation of donors in conjunction with the Board.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate is energetic and passionate about opera. He/she is someone who may be the early stages of his/her professional career in music (or the arts), and with a vision to steer the organization. An ideal General Manager sees COPA as an organization to grow with, to learn from, and to take to the next level, leaving a personal mark on COPA, and through it, COPA’s members.
